| I produced this work as it occurred to me that if a city is a living thing, its breaths may be lights. The more lights gather, the more energized its activities get. What I imagined is such a place for lights to gather-- a symbol of a city. Even though it is unified by something machanical, it also has an atmosphere in which it is thinking by itself. If my audience can pick up such an atmosphere from this work, that will be an honor. |

I am thankful to you for the prize. I am really proud of it. Although I had previously heard about the TORAY DIGITAL CREATION AWARDS, I had never entered. I thought it was a very high level contest because there were many previous prize winners who were already very famous.
I got the idea that lights are a symbol of the breath of a city; then I started to create it. For sometime I had been working with computer graphics, which is well suited to making clear images. I felt that it was a good medium to use to express my concept of light.
In the actual process of creation, I put emphasis on the symbolism of this image. The central transparent object is the heart, which is formed by collected and concentrated light. The meaning of this image is that an inorganic substance can create something organic.
A contest, such as this one, is a really good place for us digital artists to express our creativity. Creative work should be seen by others, so it can have true meaning.
I am sure this wonderful contest for digital artists will have continued success in the future.
