It was quite a mysterious world, I found, when I journeyed through the heart, which was something one cannot actually feel or sense. The world without time, space, or gravity; awe found far into the past; the expectation one may have toward the nation he longs for... the society I have imagined, I attempted to draw. It was a broad world, even though it seemed otherwise, in which I tried to express what I don't think I was aware of, in an abstract way. In addition, I wanted to express the heart that I actually was aware of in a more specific way. I used something old, to express something I could be aware of-- it's supposed to be what always remains in my heart. On the other hand, there is a part which I couldn't peep in. I wonder if that was my own future, or past? What I am certain is, that there is an unknown world spread in front of me.
In this work, I used a variety of techniques, from 3D CG to illustration. Each technique was an important element in order for me to construct one mysterious world. I hope the audience senses both the expectation and worries I have about my own unknown world, toward which I am attempting to advance-- the direction I am aiming-- without being caught with only one factor. |
I am truly happy for the award. I selected the journey of heart as my own thematic subject among three choices, because recently, it has been my own theme. For this work, first I used my own instinct to draw within my mind, roughly sketched it, then started using CG to create an particular object. Though almost all was basically done at the stage of the rough sketch, there are some parts I newly added to, and others omitted from the draft, when actually using my computer. This trial-and-error stage was the part I was most careful working on. I paid attention to small details in its production. I hope the audience felt something special as looking at my work.
Receiving this Honorable Mention Award has become a great encouragement for my future production activity. I would like to continue creating artworks while paying close attention to my own journey of heart. Again, thank you very much. |
