-- Overall Evaluation --
Numerous award-winning artworks from the past Toray Digital Creation Awards were often created with rather sobering colors. In comparing with that, many of this year´s entries were very fresh-looking; this was quite fun for me in that I found a new feeling towards the next step; in fact, many entries suggest a good future for many of the artists. There are those pieces of artwork made with 3D, while others are 2D drawing. My philosophy is that, instead of judging which technique is better, awards should be given to "excellent pieces of work." I would like to see more and more entries with uniquely interesting expressions of art, within each theme given.

<General Section>
Grand Prize winning work
"Revival" by Tomohiro Kimura (On the theme "Cities that breathe")
I see the artist´s ability of creating, and expressing an ordinary space as if it were heterogeneous, four-dimensional one. I´m very impressed with his ability of construction. As for the use of colors, while it is monotone, the work not only holds a good sense of tension overall, but also it gives a dynamic impression. Even though it is a still picture, it gives the impression of moving energy, while it also has a musical atmosphere. I picked this work to give the Grand Prize because it was the best one, overall.

Excellence Award winning work
"Breath of A City" by Norihiro Fujiwaka (On the theme "Cities that breathe")
This work´s motif is something you may want to call a "mechanical life body." As you take a closer look, however, you can find the artist designed it with delicate details. What was impressive about this work is that he used such techniques as gradation in the screen to give it a sense of depth, lighting effect, and mechanic details. Also, the fact that he picked near-futuristic life and machinery, as motifs for the theme of "a city," made me stop and think twice. His ability to construct a whole screen structure, powerful expressions, and a modern sensibility are outstanding. This means he is a promising artist.

"Feeling Sign" by Takefumi Yoshii (On the theme "Traveling Heart")
This work has quite a unique sense of coloring, as well as a bright, hopping rhythm to it. The use of color was dealt with a very youthful way, and it makes the audience feel like one wants to move about inside the world of this work. Its coloring has a very fairy tale-like, homey atmosphere. This makes me feel close to this work, because I could imagine the artist was having fun in creating the CG.

"the festival" by Yuji Higa (On the theme "Throb of Festival")
This work expresses the power and energy of a festival itself, by powerful lines of picturesque touches. It caught my eyes especially because it was one of only few among this year´s entries that had a cheerful, powerful atmosphere. While this is a two-dimensional work, I think it expresses the atmosphere of a festival very well. Above all, this is the kind of work with very powerful lines which leave its audience impressed.

<Junior Section>
This year, unfortunately, ended up with no award winners. We are looking forward to seeing cheerful, youthful, fun pieces of artwork filled with fun-loving hearts. In fact, the Junior Section is what we are expecting to grow most. We really are looking forward to many entries in the future.
