About the work |
 |
| I chose to submit a work under the theme of "Omen/Trillion" for this year's competition. When I saw the theme, I read the character as kizashi, or "good omen" and I was able to conjure up an image of light. In creating my work, I employed gradation as symbol of light. I thought that by composing a picture with points, lines, circles and squares using gradation, new light could be created. Graphically speaking, the work is very simple, but it was very easy to widely expand; it's designed to leave room for future development, both for me and the work itself. |

On receiving the award |
 |
Already one year after working hard on a continuation of my graduation piece, I was in the process of absently thinking back on the moment when I received notice of winning an award in the Toray DCA2005 competition. I was both surprised and extremely delighted. More than anything I was very pleased that I have something tangible to show for that one year period, and that something as fluid as time has turned into something solid.
This outcome is a major source of sustenance for me and has provided me with considerable confidence and motivation in preparing for future creations.
Thank you very much for selecting my work. |
