About the work |
 |
"C. warneri" refers to Cattleya warneri, a variety of the Cattleya species of orchid. Cattleya: Flowers are medium to large in size, varying from purple-red, pink, yellow or white, and are highly pleasing. Warneri: between two and five large, flat, open flowers measuring 15-20cm across grow on a single stem. They are a light purplish pink in color, and the lobe in the middle of the orchid lip is a deep red-purple. The center is orange-yellow with veins ranging from dark lilac to white. It is fragrant. Reference/citation: Genshu Ran Zukan ("An Encyclopedia of Orchid Species") Cattleya warneri takes on a variety of different appearances, and I captured it at the moment of blossoming--the peak of a plant's life--in an attempt to depict its sense of vitality and dynamism. Although the results were stills, as part of the process I initially created an animation. Once I had visualized the entire concept in my mind, the elements not only strongly influenced the images, but also transformed them from mere stills into a unique form of expression. These images are more than just captured images. |
