Entrusted the "beauty" of various stages of human being to flowers.
This work was created with a thought of "beauty" being an overlap of colors? radiated in each moment of life? and time? from birth to death given to people and flowers equally. |

| Receiving the award |
|
I am very honored to receive this prestigious award. I am very surprised and deeply moved.
This piece of work, "HANA" expresses the moments in life "be born", "live", "age" and "die" and the continuity of time in between the moments by overlapping metaphors of flowers and humans. This is also a snapshot of reality and unreality. I created this piece of work with a belief: the time lost and will be lost are certainly not something one should despair on, rather each moment is always equal and holds beauty specific to it. What deeply intrigued me is that despite this theme having been long told, it can be expressed in new ways using a computer in ways past medium could not have express. This could be called as the new mixed media. Also, compare to motion pictures and videos that are limited by the lights and the movements, computer pictures, in some part, definitely have the ability to widely and deeply connect various materials together.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the people who were involved in Toray DCA and to all the members of the screening committee. Also, I could not have won this award without the help of my family, friends, and all those that supported me. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart. |
