About the work |
 |
Generally, a plant is considered to be a being that has an organic form. However, that is just one of the aspects because along with their organic form, a plant possesses a contradictory element of geometric/mechanical structure. By highlighting the later, the plant's out-of-the-ordinary form is revealed, and in it, a different kind of attractiveness can be found.
As such, C.morifolium, better know as chrysanthemums, was chosen as the primary subject for my work.
They have an alias; Inkunshi or Initsuka. The names refer to a man of virtue who hidingly lives in the countryside withdrawing from the real world. In addition to being a traditional garden plant for ornamental purposes, chrysanthemums also holds religious significance as a flower for Buddhist altar. Thus, it can be said that chrysanthemums carries a characteristic of nobleness as well as aura of darkness.
I have attempted to express the chrysanthemums' ambience; it possesses a light somewhere despite of being in the darkness. |
