"Imaginary House" succeeded in capturing the Grand Prize because the
artist, Hiroyuki Futai, transcended traditional approaches toward
architecture to express a deeper world that was embraced by the home's
inhabitant. This bold new work enables us to imagine a new architectural
concept. A similar though-provoking environment was created by Kadan Kanda
in "Muo-no-Rigyo (The Carp That Swam In My Dreams)" and in Yasuaki Handa's "Mirror", which described the mysterious relationship between space and
humanity. The entries left me quite impressed that digital art could
express a profound inner world. This year's competition showed me the
improved possibilities that exist in digital art. I am grateful to all the
contestants.
