| About the work |

I love nautiluses. I made the sketch, which I drew on copy paper, quite a while ago.
Then I wanted to arrange it in various ways.
The nautilus and the horseshoe crab in the picture are close friends.
They are playing with each other, having swimming races in the sea 500 million years ago. They are hiding away from their mothers in the seaweed, talking in secret about where to go next. |

I enjoyed drawing my picture for DCA Junior last year, so I wanted to do it again this year.
I like ancient creatures, so in the future I want to be a person who digs for fossils. Last year during summer vacation I had a chance to try digging for fossils, and in looking at the fossils we found and at picture books, I began to imagine the creatures of long ago in a time slip.
I took care in drawing various details such as the nautilus's tentacles and the swaying wakame seaweed, so I was glad when I heard the picture I'd drawn had won the Grand Prize. What I would like people to look at most in the picture is the nautilus. The horseshoe crab was easy to draw.
I am very happy to receive such a great prize. |
